COOLIEF™

and

Hyaluronic Acid

The Lyman ​Medical Research Foundation is conducting a study to measure the effectiveness of two  non-surgical treatments for Osteoarthritis Knee Pain. Both treatments are approved by the FDA and are currently available to you outside of the study. This study does not introduce any experimental procedures. In technical terms, we are comparing COOLIEF™ with Hyaluronic Acid (HA).

Those who qualify for this study will be randomized to one of the two treatments. Those who initially receive HA may also qualify to receive COOLIEF™ after six months. ​​

How much does it cost?

Participants in the study will receive trial-related medical care and treatment at no cost. You may be billed for your initial visit.

What is the time commitment?

If you are selected to take part in this study you will be enrolled for approximately 13 months. Periodic visits to our office in Coeur d'Alene, ID are required in for this clinical trial.

​You May Qualify If...

 

  • You have a BMI less than 40

  • Your clinical study x-ray indicates OA

  • You’ve had OA knee pain for over 6 months with functional impairment

  • You have a knee pain level of 6 on a scale of 0-10

  • You have no other systemic condition (RheumatoidArthritis, Gout) that could cause knee pain

  • You haven't had prior total knee or partial knee replacement

  • You haven't had a prior hyaluronic acid injection or radiofrequency ablation

  • You won't have knee surgery during the study

​You Do Not Qualify If...

  • You have a pending or active compensation claim, litigation or disability claim

  • You are allergic to any medications used (hyaluronate, avian products: eggs, feathers, or poultry)

  • You have an active knee infection

  • You are receiving coagulation treatment or have uncontrollable bleeding

  • You are currently taking opioid medications or have a drug addiction

  • You are participating in another clinical trial within 30 days from enrollment

Additional qualifying conditions will apply and may be determined upon your initial visit and during the course of the clinical trial.
